Birthly Is Offering Its Prenatal Education Bootcamp in Spanish

As a part of our ongoing effort to expand access to childbirth education, the Birthly team has been working to create a Spanish perinatal education curriculum. The first class that we have launched in Spanish is our Prenatal Education Bootcamp.

The Prenatal Education Bootcamp is a keystone component of our program. Totaling 5 hours of interactive class time split across two 2.5-hr sessions, the bootcamp looks to inform expecting parents about the different stages of labor and delivery, as well as the basics of common medical interventions. The goal for this class is to empower families with evidence-based information and help them make informed decisions to achieve their unique birth goals. Our instructor will answer the big questions about laboring, timing contractions, and going to the birthing facility. The class will also cover late pregnancy health and postpartum strategies to help families achieve a satisfactory pregnancy.

The Birthly instructor that has spearheaded the development of our Spanish curriculum is Puri Carvajal. She is also teaching our Spanish Prenatal Education Bootcamp. Puri is a Certified Birth Doula (DONA), Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP), Childbirth Educator (CEA/MNY), and Child Specialist (CDA). She has been supporting families in NY and New Jersey since 2012, the year she moved to NY from Barcelona (Spain) where she worked as a social worker and a family therapist for almost 10 years.  For more than 6 years, she was part of the team of doulas and educators in the Perinatal Support Program at Columbia University Early Head Start. In 2019 she became a full-time freelancer as a doula and educator and with her other project for the Spanish speaker population, DoulasEnEspanol. Puri has extensive training and experience in the areas of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and lactation. She has worked with all types of populations, supporting and empowering the diversity and identity of each person who is in this unique moment of life.
